  2. ★ ★ ★ Pretty In Pink (1986) is about a poor high school teen tied between a poor boy that worships her and a rich boy she loves. Definitely cheesy, but in a totally 90’s way. The film itself is alright, but what I think shined the most for the film was Jon Cryer with his immaculate sense of style and brilliant humor. I found him to be totally loveable in an underrated-icon sorta way. Recommended.

Candy-colored nonsense, excessive amounts of cheesy and unrealistic CGI, and at times, silly acting and cuts. Could you defend the film by saying it matched the emptiness of the time period? No! It was excruciating and brutal to go through. If it weren’t for Mulligan’s cuteness, or DiCaprio’s laughable accent, and Tobey’s bearable acting, then I would have died. But I will hand it to Luhrmann for some very fun scenes and an amazing soundtrack. All in all, a “nice” attempt of an adaptation for a timeless novel.  *props to Gershwin and what I think was a song done by John Adams who said he wouldn’t let films use his music??

When I stepped out of the theater, several people were saying how great it was but I couldn’t find anything great about it other than great actors, an impeccable set design and art direction, and the brilliance behind how much can happen in a contained area. It seemed a bit subpar from his previous films. It seems like it’s worth a watch for Bertolucci fans~

This is because both Brit and Zal had written the film the same time they made Sound of My Voice. Though they basically have similar premises and ideas, both are very good and it’ll be exciting to see The East come out in theaters very soon. Recommended.

Not only does she land the job, but…as a competing typist. Charming, full of candy-colored costumes and design, and a to-die-for soundtrack, it’s a darling film that knows its 50’s-60’s pop culture. The director even chose actors and actresses who resembled those from the past from Gene Kelly to Audrey Hepburn. It was like seeing Funny Face for the second time. A movie too easy to fall in love with, especially for those who love the 50’s and 60’s. Highly recommended~ p/s: Speaking of The Artist, it features Bernice Bejo who was the lead actress! So good to hear her speak!
